This tour will give you a one day experience of just how diverse the Island of Maui really is. The tour begins at sea level and climbs to over 10,000 feet above to the top of Mt. Haleakala. This is the world's largest dormant volcano, it looks like the moon, dry and desolate. The second half of your day you will be cruising the famous road to Hana, at sea level. Here you will experience lush tropical forests, rainforests, bamboo forests, waterfalls, fruits and flowers only found in Hawaii. We go to Haleakala in the morning because that's when you get the best viewing conditions. The drive to the top takes about 2 hours and is a journey in itself. Locals call this part of the island Upcountry. The diversity is truly amazing, from palm trees and white sand beaches at sea level, you will be treated to beautiful pasture lands, sugar cane, pineapple fields, protea farms, stunning landscapes, forests, ranch land, up and up to lava flows and finally the crater. At the top there is a viewing lookout with detailed information about this incredible place. Also at the top are the rare nene goose and the silversword plant found nowhere else on earth.

Heading back down we will probably go through the quaint cowboy town of Makawao at about 1,200 feet. The town still has hitching posts for horses. There are wonderful shops and local restaurants from Italian, Mexican, health food to a bakery that is world famous.

Now its off down the road to Hana. At this point we can drive with little stopping and make it to Hana (about a 2 hour drive) or stop at a waterfall for some swimming, photo opportunities and relaxing among the beauty of nature. You see we are now in the lush part of the island complete with all the beautiful flora and fauna any nature lover could ask for. Most of our adventurers opt for the more relaxing leisurely, no hurry choice. In that case its the waterfalls, rainforests, bamboo forests, hiking and beautiful landscape.

Even if we do not make it to Hana you will have experienced the best of the trip to Hana and forgone most of the 617 curves and 52 one way bridges that make this road the famous as "divorce highway".
